Join Zeki, a survival and foraging expert in the Cairngorms National Park. Go for a stroll in the highlands and discover various plants for building and flavouring food. Learn about the history of the Cairngorms and the songs and poetry associated with a lifestyle in the highlands of Scotland.
Meet Ghillie, the internationally acclaimed writer, broadcaster and traveller. Dubbed the original Spice Girl. Ghillie has created an astonishing arrangement of food pairings with whisky, which you will experience along with a gastronomic feast of Scottish produce paired with global spices and flavours.

Forage with Zeki
High-quality outdoor clothing can be provided, but it is advisable to wear excellent waterproof gear—the amount of walking when foraging can be tailored to all abilities. Wild ingredients are searched for and harvested from the surrounding landscape, Zeki will talk about each plant, its attributes and uses. The foraged herbs can be used in cooking later in the day.
Build the pit oven
Zeki will then cut reeds and get the group to weave the lid for the pit oven. The pit oven is dug, the fire is started, and the rocks are heated. The haunch of venison is lowered into the pit covered with hot stones, earth and the reed lid.
Meet Ghillie
Author of over 40 books, writer and broadcaster Ghillie Basan shares her knowledge of whisky and food. Her extensive journeys worldwide hunting spices have inspired the creation of a remarkable whisky and food pairing. The experience works very well with non-whisky-drinking people and true Scotch Whisky connoisseurs.
Enjoy the fruits of your labour
The day ends with a wonderful feast using the best Scottish produce and Ghillie's vast knowledge of spices and global cooking techniques.
