Golfing in England

Golf is categorized as a cross-country game where a player hits a small ball with different clubs from various teeing grounds. The goal is to get the ball into several holes in a minimal number of swings. Easier said than done.

Who knew that this pastime traces back to the 15th century Scotland? Unlike other activities, a golf course doesn't have a fixed size; it varies in length and size, keeping it interesting for the golfers. Each course contains several holes; usually, there's 18, but some only have nine. It differs from place to place. Golf is one of those activities that attract people of all ages year-round.

England has a vast number of courses of differing levels of difficulty. This country provides a range of different course types, making it one of the world's most topographically diverse golfing spots. Take a swing on your Private Tour of England.

Where to stay
The Petwood Hotel sits on the edge of the Hotchkin golf course; it is the obvious choice. The house has stunning gardens and historical connections to when Lincolnshire was the "bomber county".
