History
The Earl of Orkney established The Glenapp Estate quite well when James Hunter, the industrialist, acquired the property. He commissioned David Bryce, a famous Edinburgh architect, to design him a marvellous home in 1870. Bryce was a leading supporter of the Scottish Baronial style.

In 1917 the castle passed to James Lyle Mackay, who later became the first Earl of Inchcape. After years of disrepair, the McMillan family of Scottish hoteliers bought the property in 1994, restoring it to its former glory. In 2015, Paul and Poppy Szkiler acquired the castle.
