History
In the late 1600s, The Danby family owned the Estate. They created the Parkland, building the deer park and deerhouse, woodland, gardens and five lakes. The family ordered to construct the Druid’s Temple folly on the moors.

The hotel was a Georgian country house in the first place, but it became a castle in the early 1800s under a Gothic influence. In 1880 Samuel Cunliffe-Lister bought the property. He executed substantial building works, adding the whole second floor and the wing home to the palatial dining room.

From generation to generation, the hotel got passed on. The current Earl of Swinton took on the running of the Estate in 2006. Several profitable businesses have launched on the Estate, including turning the family home into the Swinton Park hotel in 2001, Swinton Cookery School in 2003, Swinton Birds of Prey in 2006, Swinton Bivouac glamping campsite and café in 2012 and the Swinton Country Club & Spa in 2017.
