A brief history of the Corinthia
The Corinthia Hotel in London is relatively new, but its building has had quite a long history.

Before the hotel housed a government institution, it was a different hotel that dates back to the 19th century, namely the Hotel Metropole. It first opened its doors in 1885 under Queen Victoria and was known as the largest hotel in Europe. It was one of Frederick Gordons' projects; what was so unique is that the amenities were ahead of its time, such as bathrooms, phones, and even elevators. The demand for luxury became apparent when American and French travellers started to visit.

Another part of its history takes place during World War One and Two. During the First World War, this building housed government offices. During the Second World War, the building was occupied by an official spy organisation, complete with secret tunnels below London. Afterwards, it stayed vacant for many years. The Corinthia Hotel Group purchased the structure in 2008 and wanted to reinstate the building back to its glory as a luxurious hotel.
