Christmas in the Cotswolds
Be chauffeur-driven through the Cotswolds hills and discover the famous villages with their Christmas trees, markets and cosy country pubs.
There is nothing quite like visiting places without the summer visitors. You can enjoy historic towns and villages in their natural state. The holidays, or Christmas time as we say in the UK, is truly magical in regions such as the Cotswolds. You get to meet local people, have a conversation in a pub or shop and enjoy local traditions such as carol singing, church services and cosy taverns with roaring fires.
This is a suggested (we can customise any aspect) itinerary designed for the first three weeks of December. We can provide an itinerary specifically for the actual holidays themselves. Our suggested hotel for this itinerary is the wonderful Estelle Manor.
Your chauffeur will collect you from your central London hotel and whisk you into the countryside, heading up the Thames Valley through Dorchester and Wallingford, the "Mid-Sommer Murder Villages." Eventually, arriving in Oxford. The assumption is you would have arrived into London a couple of days before and experience the city in its wonderful Christmas splendour.
See the Christmas lights in Oxford and stroll the colleges with your driver-guide. The origins of the University at Oxford date back to the Middle Ages, and today remains one of the world's foremost places of higher education. The volume of architectural gems in Oxford has attracted filmmakers: over 40 films have been shot in the city since the 1960s, including Harry Potter, Saltburn and Tolkien.
Stop at The Wild Rabbit Country pub for a wintery pub lunch. Continue your journey through the rolling hills to Burford and Filkin's Woollen merchants for high-end woollen products. Complete your trip with a short drive to wonderful Estelle Manor, your Luxury Cotswolds retreat.
Overnight: Estelle Manor.
Morning to enjoy the array of activities on the Estelle Manor estate. During the afternoon, head to the historic town of Cirencester for the Christmas market in the square; expect Carol singing around a Christmas tree, mulled wine and merriment.
The beautiful parish Church of St John the Baptist is an architectural gem and must be visited. Construction began around 1115, and is famous for its magnificent porch, fan vaults and old merchants' tombs.
Time permitting, your chauffeur will whisk you down to the village of Tetbury. It is a medieval hilltop town with many antique shops, cosy pubs and independent shops.
Overnight: Estelle Manor.
Enjoy a lazy breakfast and stroll the grounds before heading to Blenheim Palace.
Enjoy a private guided tour of one of England's great historic houses and home of the Dukes of Marlborough. The grounds and palace were a gift from a grateful nation in recognition of the defeat of King Louis 14th at the battle of Blindheim (Blenheim) Baveria in 1705.
Apart from the houses and contents being of great significance, the palace at this time of the year has a Christmas market, and the interior Christmas decorations are incredible. Stop in a local pub for a few drinks before returning to London.
