- See London's Roman Amphitheatre
- See the tombs of the Knights Templar
- Go below ground and view the Temple of Mithras
The Inns of Court
Your guide will take you into the labyrinth of courtyards and gardens of the Inns of Court. The neighbourhood was once the Knights Templar's fortified headquarters, now London's legal district. Go-inside, the Temple Church, see the tombs of the knights and hear the tale of their contribution to our modern democracy. The mysterious and famously courageous warriors of the past specialised in protecting pilgrims en-route to the Holy Land, probably the most dangerous undertaking of any would-be pilgrim.
Fleet Street
Scuttle your way through the backstreets off Fleet Street, go-inside the "Twinings" tea-shop, stop at Dr Johnson's House and peek inside an old pub or two. City churches increase in number, but none are more impressive than St. Paul's Cathedral, one of Europe's great architectural masterpieces. There is an opportunity to go inside at the end of the tour or extend to make it part of the day.
The old City and its origins
See World War Two, bombed-out churchyards and secret gardens. Now you will go below ground and be surprised by a superb world-class art gallery and London's Roman Amphitheatre. In 1988 archaeologists were rather surprised to find a huge arena while conducting a routine dig at the Guildhall. The one hundred year search for London's Roman Amphitheatre was over and now beautifully preserved for all to see.
St Stephen Walbrook and the Temple of Mithras
See the award-winning Bloomberg offices, a virtually carbon-neutral building and housing a Roman secret. Go-inside the Temple of Mithras and be seduced by the special effects sound, light and mist. The cult of Mithras became rival to Christ and had vast numbers of followers from business and military backgrounds. The dark, mysterious sites were ideal for contemplation and ceremony. Did members forge honourable alliances or form political plots? It was undoubtedly a secret and prestigious cult.
We end the walk with a peek inside St. Stephen Walbrook, the Church that is said to be the forerunner of the great St. Paul's Cathedral designed by Sir Christopher Wren.
Your guide will now make sure you are on the right track. The tour guide will help arrange lunch (dinner) or access to St Paul's Cathedral, Transport to your hotel, the Tower of London, or you may wish to extend your 'tour guide' time.
